Encre - Encre

encre Encre's (aka yann tambour) selftitled debut album just out on clapping music is definitely something worth giving a good listen to.

plus a review if you're into french.

(sorry for editing your message. just want to remark that the macro is <% weblog.image name="[name]" align="left" %> and the server actually downsized the images.)

Coldcut - Autumn Leaves

Before the formation of the Ninja Tune label, Coldcut were signed to the major label Arista. One album came of this relationship and one single, Autumn Leaves(a French jazz perennial, supposedly). This is the remix by Mixmaster Morris of the Irresistable Force, about the only worthwhile thing from that period.

the sidewinder

kai winding - dirty dog (verve, 1966) the first time i heard this song was in the early or mid 90's in a radio show of the beastie boys. it was a special in an afternoon programme with focus on indie. the beasties made a great selection of reggae, soul, funk, new wave, hip-hop, cheese and jazz. i suppose thousands of indie kids thought WTF as they spun lee morgan's "sidewinder" (lo-fi version of filepile) in the original 10 minutes version from 1963.

my favorite version is that of kai winding, though. it's on "dirty dog". the liner notes say that winding was "the performing maestro at hugh hefner's new york playboy club". i don't think the bunnies used to be jazz aficionados and so this version is much, much more accessible.
