kris, August 26, 2001 at 3:58:18 PM CEST the sidewinder the first time i heard this song was in the early or mid 90's in a radio show of the beastie boys. it was a special in an afternoon programme with focus on indie. the beasties made a great selection of reggae, soul, funk, new wave, hip-hop, cheese and jazz. i suppose thousands of indie kids thought WTF as they spun lee morgan's "sidewinder" (lo-fi version of filepile) in the original 10 minutes version from 1963. my favorite version is that of kai winding, though. it's on "dirty dog". the liner notes say that winding was "the performing maestro at hugh hefner's new york playboy club". i don't think the bunnies used to be jazz aficionados and so this version is much, much more accessible. Smooth! While I couldn't find the Sidewinder on Audiogalaxy I did download More, Trombone Octet and Route 66 Theme. Route 66 is my favourite of the three. kris, August 27, 2001 at 5:16:08 PM CEST
the sidewinder is extremely rare i have the track on vinyl only and i can't be bothered to digitize it. you may be able to find "hero" by kai winding feat. kenny burrell, which is available on a couple of mid-90s easy listening samplers. it sounds like 60's brass orchestra (think lalo shifrin's "mission impossible" or "bullit" soundtrack) with an upfront "spaghetti western meets jazz" guitar. kris, August 27, 2001 at 5:32:22 PM CEST
audiogalaxy i just found a macintosh-client for audiogalaxy. "the sidewinder" is listed as "the side winder". but audiogalaxy rocks. much nicer than limewire. Please login to add a comment |
